''  SAMUEL M. GOODRICH ENDOWED HEALTHCARE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Dr. Samuel M. GoodrichDr. Samuel M. Goodrich was born in his family’s home in Milledgeville and he attended Georgia Military College Prep and Junior College before transferring to the University of Georgia where he received his bachelor’s degree with majors in chemistry, physics and biology. At UGA he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. He received his Medical Doctorate, in 1961, at the Medical College of Georgia, where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and where he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Goodrich served as a Major in the Army at Fort Bragg NC and then was an assistant professor at MCG before opening his practice in Milledgeville in 1969.

The award is presented annually to a student entering their final year of study who demonstrates academic success, leadership and service to university, profession, community and state.

Nominations are submitted by faculty to their departmental representative for Alpha Eta.

CRITERIA:

1) Recipients must be enrolled in a healthcare or healthcare-related field of study.
2) A minimum of two years toward a program should be completed to demonstrate commitment to a particular field of study for graduate programs. All graduate program students who have been accepted into the selected graduate program meet this qualification.
3) Deadline for application submission is May 31, 2013.

Applicants are selected by the Oconee Regional Healthcare Foundation Awards Committee.

AMOUNT: $1,000 to $5,000 for the 2013-2014 academic year.

'' RAYMOND C. BARD SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Dr. Raymond C. BardDr. Raymond C. Bard was the founding Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences at GRU from 1968-88. This award was established in his memory for his valuable contributions, vision and philosophy for the college that continues to this day.

The award is presented annually to a student entering their final year of study who demonstrates academic success, leadership and service to university, profession, community and state.

Nominations are submitted by faculty to their departmental representative for Alpha Eta.

CRITERIA:

1) Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
2) Student is entering their final year of study at GRU.

Nominated students will complete a nomination form to describe their service activities. Applicants are selected by the Alpha Eta Awards Committee and presented at the spring awards ceremony.

AMOUNT: $500

'' BIAGIO J. VERICELLA SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Dr. Biagio J. Vericella This award was created in honor of Dr. Biagio J. Vericella. Dr. Vericella came to GRU in 1973 and served as Associate Dean from 1976 until he became Dean in 1988. The allied health programs continued to gain an excellent national reputation under his tenure until his retirement in 2001.

The award is presented annually to a graduating student who epitomizes the qualities of compassion, optimism, mentoring, leadership and service within the college, the university and the community.

 Nominations are submitted by faculty to their Alpha Eta departmental representative.

 CRITERIA:

1) Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
2) Student demonstrates compassion, optimism, mentoring, leadership and service.
3) Must be a graduating student.

Faculty will provide a letter of support for the nominee from the department chairperson or faculty member. Nominated students will complete a nomination form to describe their service activities. Applicants are selected by the Alpha Eta Awards Committee and presented at the spring awards ceremony.

AMOUNT: $500

'' GHSU FACULTY AND SPOUSE CLUB SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

This award is presented by the GRU Faculty and Spouse Club to one outstanding student from each of the five schools at the Georgia Regents University.

CRITERIA:

1) Each department within the CAHS will submit ONE nominee for this award based on the following:

  • student must be a rising senior
  • student must show financial need
  • student must show academic promise
  • student must show leadership and service to GRU, community and/or state

2) Nominated students will complete a nomination form to describe their service activities.

The Alpha Eta Society selects the rising senior student in the College of Allied Health Sciences most deserving of this award. Applicants are selected by the Alpha Eta Awards Committee, approved by the Faculty Spouse Club, and presented at the spring awards ceremony.

AMOUNT: $2,000

'' ALPHA ETA SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS

Alpha Eta is the national allied health honor society. This award is presented to a graduating student who demonstrates leadership and service to the community while attending GRU.

CRITERIA:

1) Eligibility for the scholarship will be applicants who are considered, but not selected, for one of the following awards:

  • Raymond C. Bard Scholarship Award
  • Biagio J. Vericella Scholarship Award
  • GHSU Faculty and Spouse Club Scholarship Award

2) Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • service to the community
  • leadership while attending GRU

Applicants are selected by the Executive Board and department representatives of the Alpha Eta Society. The number of awards given is determined annually by the Executive Board.

'' COLLEGE OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS

These scholarships were created by the CAHS Alumni Association to support GRU Allied Health Sciences students.

CRITERIA:

1) Student must be a student member of the CAHS Alumni Association to be eligible to apply.

2) Student will complete a form which provides the following information:

  • a brief statement describing their reasons for pursuing a career in their chosen field
  • career plans following graduation
  • self motivation for improvement
  • leadership potential

Applicants are selected by the CAHS Alumni Association Board of Directors.

AMOUNT: $250 (number of awards given varies annually)

'' ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS OF ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS (ASAHP)
SCHOLARHIP OF EXCELLENCE AWARD

The purpose of this scholarship program is to recognize outstanding students in the allied health professions who are achieving excellence in their academic programs and have significant potential to assume future leadership roles in the allied health professions.

CRITERIA:

1) Candidates must be enrolled in a college or school that is an institutional member of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (GRU CAHS maintains an active membership in ASAHP).

2) Candidates must have successfully completed at least one term at the institution.

3) Candidates must be enrolled in a career entry-level, degree-granting program; all degree levels are eligible (associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral).

4) Financial need is not a criteria for eligibility.

Unique accomplishments are an important consideration in selecting the recipient. Among the qualities that will be recognized are:

  • academic achievements
  • service to the institution and the community
  • leadership
  • extracurricular activities
  • evidence of strong communication skills

AMOUNT: $1,000
