Our leadership

Leadership at The GHSU Cancer Center is charged with growing the center's clinical and research programs, advancing knowledge in the fields of cancer biology, treatment and prevention; and achieving designation as a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center site to benefit the surrounding community and the citizens of Georgia.

“The facilities are phenomenal, there is great teamwork and synergy between the research and clinical facilities, and there is just a tremendous amount of energy under the new leadership,” said Khleif, who was recruited from the National Institutes of Health, where he served as Chief of the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Vaccine Section.

Dr. John K. Cowell, a geneticist, edited the first and second editions of Molecular Biology of Cancer, published by Bios Publishing Corp., Oxford, UK. He also has contributed chapters to some 16 books on cancer biology. A full professor of pathology at MCG, his job at the Cancer Center will be to foster collaborative science among the investigators.

NCI-sponsored trials ask the best questions and are probably the most strictly conducted of the clinical trials, but a particular option may not work for everyone.
