Considerations for Dental Professionals
Carol Jahn, R.D.H., M. S.
Carol Jahn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from the University
of Iowa and a Master of Science degree in Continuing Education and Training Management
from the University of St. Francis. Her 28 years of experience as a dental hygienist
include 14 years of clinical practice. As the Senior Professional Relations Manager
for Water Pik, Inc, Carol designs multimedia educational programs for dental professionals.
She is a nationally recognized speaker having provided more than 200 continuing education
courses. Additionally, she has published more than 60 papers, contributed to 7 textbooks,
and serves on the advisory board for RDH Magazine and the Corporate Council for Dimension
of Dental Hygiene. Carol has been a lifelong active member of the American Dental
Hygienists’ Association; she is a past president of the West Suburban Dental Hygienists’
Society and the Illinois Dental Hygienists’ Association and past treasurer of the
ADHA. She was one of two ADHA delegates to the International Federation of Dental
Hygiene meeting in June 2010 in Scotland.

This course will provide members of the dental team with research and information
to understand and recognize the overall health needs and expectations of Baby Boomers
and Senior Citizens. Medical conditions highlighted in the program include heart disease,
stroke, diabetes, obesity, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, osteoporosis, and
Alzheimer’s disease.
Course content will assist the dental professional in providing quality care and effective
dental treatment to this segment of the population.
Course Objectives
• Explain the societal and social impact of aging.
• Identify chronic diseases and conditions affecting those over the age of 45.
• Discuss the potential links between oral and systemic health.
• Evaluate the self-care measures available for the reduction of gingivitis and bleeding
and recommend products/regimens appropriate for individual needs.

The instructional time in this course is 4.0 hours. Attendance for the entire program is approved by the Georgia Health Sciences University/ Georgia Health Sciences University for .4 Continuing Education Units (CEU).
