Renal Transplant Program

The renal transplant program at the Georgia Regents University has two full-time transplant surgeons and two transplant nephrologists who oversee the care of patients receiving deceased and living donor renal transplants as well as simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplants.  This program has been one of the 50 most active transplant centers in the country. With extramural grant funding, the program has increased its staff of coordinators and physician's assistants which has helped the waiting list grow to over 700 patients as of July 2011.  These increased listings will facilitate increasing numbers of transplants at Georgia Regents University over the next 3-5 year period.  Since inception in 1968, the program has performed over 2100 transplants.  During calendar year 2010, the program performed 4 kidney/pancreas transplants and 7 kidney transplants of which 17 were from living donors.
