SHS Medical Clinic 

 

Our committed staff delivers high quality and cost effective medical care to all GHSU students, and maintains strict patient confidentiality. We are committed to a high standard of professionalism and excellence in service. We are staffed by a Medical Director, part-time Physicians, part-time PA’s, a Counselor, and a friendly, student-oriented support staff.

GHSU Student Health Service offers many comprehensive outpatient services and programs including a primary care clinic that also provides gynecologic services, orthopedic care, minor surgical procedures, diagnostic testing, laboratory services, allergy/immunization services, pharmaceuticals, and worldwide travel consultation.

Minor Procedures- We perform a variety of minor procedures at SHS, including biopsy, cryosurgery, laceration repair, excision, steroid injection, anoscopy and jet nebulizer treatment. Related to women’s and men’s health, we also perform PAP smear, IUD insertion, colposcopy and androscopy.

Laboratory services- We provide many laboratory services in- house and others through our contracted laboratory. If you are insured with the GHSU Student Health Insurance plan, we can bill the plan on your behalf for the laboratory services. If you are on a private insurance plan, we can send your specimens to our contracted laboratory or another laboratory that your insurance plan may require. If the lab ordered cannot be obtained in our clinic, we have a contracted laboratory very close to the GHSU campus.

Diagnostic Testing- In addition to our laboratory services, we also perform diagnostic testing to include EKG, pulmonary function, pulse oximetry, visual acuity, peak flow and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

Pharmaceuticals- We also have pharmaceuticals available, including most drug classifications and a variety of over-the-counter medications. If you are insured with the GHSU Student Health Insurance plan, we can bill for these medications on your behalf. Students who are on a private insurance plan can purchase these medications and we can provide a statement that the student can file to their insurance company.

Physical Therapy- Physical therapy services are now available at our location. These services are ordered after an evaluation by one of the medical providers. There is a charge of $40.00 per visit. The GHSU student insurance plan will cover 100% of this charge.

Allergy Injections- Students on an allergy desensitization program may receive their injections at Student Health. Please refer to the section of our website related to allergy injections.

Immunizations- Immunizations required for attendance at GHSU include Tdap, Rubella, Rubeola, Mumps, with additional proof of primary series of DPT and Polio. We require proof of immunity for Varicella and Hepatitis B. TB testing is also required for new students and is required annually thereafter. Most immunization administration and/or testing can be provided by Student Health. TB testing is performed 8:00 to 4:00 pm, except Thursdays. We track immunization compliance of all students, not only to protect our students, but also to protect the patients they will have contact with.

Travel Consults- SHS offers travel health information and appropriate vaccinations to students. Our Providers give consultations offering CDC recommended immunizations, medical precautions, travel safety and tips on accessing emergency medical care.
